#SWAT: Ganduje speaks on creation of new police unit, makes demands

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, described the establishment of the Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, Nigeria Police Force Unit, NPF, as a step in the right direction.

Ganduje made the remark while commending President Muhammadu Buhari on the creation of SWAT, NAN reports.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, formed SWAT as a substitute for the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, following protest by the Nigerians.

The Kano State governor pointed out that SWAT would help combat crime in the country.
Ganduje’s position was disclosed in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, on Wednesday.

“We noticed that there are protests in some sections of the country while in Kano, the youth decided to take a good stand by not condemning the police as an institution, rather condemned the few bad eggs among them.

“Without the police, can we move freely in the country?

“We are only calling for the fishing out of the bad eggs among the institution; no more, no less.

“SWAT formation is a good step in the right direction and reforming the police institution is what our youth are agitating for,” he said.
