Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is “very unlikely” to abandon Barcelona this summer due to the financial effect of COVID-19, according to the Brazilian legend Ronaldo de Lima.

After the LaLiga giants lost 8-2 to Bayern Munich, Quique Setien was sacked as a manager and Eric Abidal was replaced as a sports director.

In particular, Barca expects to make more changes to the squad ahead of the new season.

Although the club wants Messi to stay, it is believed that the 32-year-old is seriously considering his future at Camp Nou.

Messi has been linked with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, but Ronaldo who now owns LaLiga side Real Valladolid, feels a potential transfer is unrealistic.

“It is very unlikely that Messi will leave Barcelona, especially with the financial crisis in Europe.

“Messi has a very intense relationship with Barcelona, I do not think he will stop being in love with the team. He’s upset, of course, with how they were defeated in the Champions League.

“Lionel needs his team-mates to help him, as they do, and Barcelona will have to think of something different for the next seasons. Letting your main player leave is not the solution,” he said according to Goal.
